Minutes from September 3, 2017
Special Congregational Meeting
Meeting was opened with prayer.
Iris Atkins resigned as Council President. The Vice President assumed those responsibilities. Iris was thanked for her service and dedication in difficult times.
An explanation of who was considered to be a voting member was given, using the definition in the constitution.
Sign-in sheets were passed around. Every voting member was asked to both sign and print their name. Those names were then matched against the membership list. No Council members participated in both of these activities.
Visitors were asked to sit in a separate area of the church for those not voting and were not given ballots.
Paper ballots were given out to the voting members. 2 council members were also a part of this.
Ballots were collected and given to 3 counters. The counters were given instructions to count and recount the ballots. Then to give copies of the result to the president (the secretary had resigned) and a member of the listening team. The tabulation sheet included the number of votes cast, how many were considered legal votes, and the number in favor of each option.
While the votes were being tabulated the Vice President informed members that a petition was circulating that asked for a Special Congregational Meeting to be called by the president or acting president for the purpose of addressing the recommendations as put forth in the Report of the Pacifica Synod by Bishop Taylor and the Listening Team, specifically pages 7-9, as presented to the congregation on August 30, 2017. 73 signatures were obtained.
The members were informed that both a Nominating Committee and Audit Committee were being organized.
An explanation of designated funds was given, stating that they are liabilities, not a source of money.
The counters returned and the result of the vote was as follows:
116 votes cast
112 were considered legal votes
Sell and Close 23 votes
Do not sell 89 votes
The meeting was ended with prayer. Respectfully submitted by Nancy Dreesen
