God’s work. Our hands. Volunteering

On this day, once a year, we will have one brief bilingual service (9 am), then break into teams to go out  into the community and do good works. We need team leaders to guide groups in a variety of projects, such as signing and bringing cards to a local assisted living community, participating in a clean-up at a local beach or lagoon, preparing items to be given to our local police and/or firefighters, support for our local elementary school… the creative ideas go on and on! We will provide both active projects and indoor seated projects so everyone can participate. Children and youth are definitely needed!

If you can help lead a group (insert your ideas here), teach a skill (quilting anyone?) or know of an outside group that needs some help, contact the office and be part of the planning team! We will pray over commission everyone at 9, go to our respective places by 9:30, and return for a potluck lunch around noon. This is an event that takes place in ELCA congregations all across the country. https://www.elca.org/dayofservice

AMMPARO Migrant Ministry

The word “amparo” in Spanish means the protection of a living creature from suffering or damage. The ELCA’s strategy to Accompanying Migrants with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities (AMMPARO) was envisioned after witnessing the plight of children who are forced to flee their communities because of complex and interrelated reasons, including chronic violence, poverty, environmental displacement and lack of opportunities in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Due to our connection to companion churches in the region, including companion synod relationships, and existing ministries in the U.S., the ELCA is well-positioned to help ensure that these vulnerable children are protected.
