Minutes of Council Meeting, 13 September, 2016

Members present- Iris Atkins, Pastor Ron Hovick, Spanish Language Minister Alicia Saenz, Bob Lechner, David Perez, Dawn Andrews, Georgene Nightingale, Nan Stufkosky, Paul Ford and Tom Brosche.

Members not present- Gabby Gutierrez.

Non-Members present- Chris Lewis and Diane Nissen.  

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by President Iris Atkins. Pastor Ron began the meeting with a prayer.

Chris Lewis and Diane Nissen gave a presentation concerning the feasibility, projected costs and steps needed to move forward with the Safari Learning Center project.  Diane briefed the Council on the paperwork needed to apply for a loan to complete the project.  Chris will brief the congregation September 30th after church service. 

President Iris Atkins informed the Council that Council Secretary Stephanie Rodriguez has submitted her resignation from Council and called for volunteers for Council Secretary. After some discussion Tom Brosche agreed to act as Council Secretary.

Laura Ortiz presented the Council with a letter allowing her to act on behalf of St. Mark’s concerning monies left to the church by Mrs. Fredrickson. After review and a brief discussion this letter was signed by the President, Vice President and Secretary.   

The Financial Report was given by Laura Ortiz. Laura informed the Council that again this month church spending continues to be higher than the income generated. For August 2016 the Profit and Loss Statement shows a net income of -$4,182.71.  Remedies were discussed without any resolution.  Motion to accept the Financial Report was made by Paul Ford, seconded by David Perez and approved by all.

The Council discussed the interment cost associated with the St Mark’s Memorial Garden and decided the cost is 500 dollars and could be adjusted for families to whom the cost was determined to be a burden.  

The Minutes of the August Council meeting were read and amended. The motion to accept the Minutes was made by Dawn Andrews, seconded by Paul Ford and approved by all.

President Iris Atkins invited all church members to AED and CPR training scheduled for 10/7/16 @ 7:00 pm.  Spanish language training session was very well attended.

Dawn Andrews reported that Thrivent Financial will host the Action Team Luncheon for active St Mark’s Thrivent members 10/21/16 @ 11:30. Additionally Thrivent plans to donate and mail 4000 flyers to advertise St. Mark’s and Thrivent’s Post-Election Economic Update event scheduled for 11/15/16 @ 12:00.

 Posada is scheduled 12/10/16: 3:00-6:00 pm.

David Perez reported on the continuing problem with homeless people using the campus after hours.  David is investigating the cost to hire a security firm for two to three weeks hopefully this would encourage them to move elsewhere.  David will report his findings to the Council at October meeting.  

Council meeting was adjourned at 9:03 P.M.
