Meeting called to order by David Perez, President, at 7:00 PM, and Pastor led with a prayer.
Treasurer’s report: Members discussed the report and decided Melody will print the Budget and Actuals Balance Sheet and not the P/L sheet. The envelope shortfall is $18,667, YTD from 2013. Motion to accept treasurers report made by Georgene, Passed by all.
Sustainable Resources: Pastor Ron presented several possibilities to provide income to the church beyond envelope donations. This idea was brought up two years ago, but needs serious attention. Pastor stressed that these are possibilities that we may look into and should be presented to the congregation as such. We are not making a decision until all facts are considered.
The following were considered as intermediate ideas: the Scrip program, which is an existing partnership with local grocery stores to donate a small percent to the church by shoppers identified as church members. A Thrivent program, which members may purchase an insurance policy now, which would grow into a larger amount later. Also discussed were Art classes, game night, and a Memorial Garden for cremated remains.
The long term ideas included: A child daycare center, a pre-school center, and a senior day care center.
Brett Perkins is awaiting to hear about the pre-school center which would be Pre K (age 3-5) 35 to 70 children.
The ideas will be brought up to the congregation for input.
Youth: Pastor Ron will introduce Kyln Pownell as the new youth director to the congregation.
Background Checks: Pastor Ron discussed looking into backgrounds checks as a policy for staff, and keeping fingerprints on file for adults working with youth. This will be done for our protection as well as youth.
Sound system: The sound system operator, Abraham, will be let go in two weeks. He is currently being paid $25 per Sunday. Pastor Ron discussed using the money to pay Katie Antis to be the children’s bell director. Georgene made a motion to pay her $15 per hour, which was Passed by all.
On the agenda for next month: Discuss defunct Designated funds. Discuss facility use fees. Discuss an upgrade to the council guidebook. Discuss Alicia Saenz education funding.
