Members present: Sheri Barker, Mark Lechner, Mike Collins, Pastor Ron Hovick

Members not present: Oliver Lapuz, David Perez

Non-members present: Lee Wagenblast, Kerri Wood, Brett Perkins (note-taker)

Meeting started at 7:05 with meditation. Pastor Ron gave a lesson based on Book of Nehemiah—rebuilding and teamwork.

April minutes were accepted as written.

Financials were also accepted. Kerri explained that revenue is down from 2012, but on pace to match recent history. Expenses are below budget. Bottom line is negative $8000 but this includes full insurance payment for the year. Kerri will provide quarterly updates to the Sunday bulletin.

Discussed the need for additional Council members; six is too few representatives for the congregation and does not provide enough “person-power” to effectively manage the complex ministry of St. Marks. Members will continue to recruit new members to Council.

Lee reported that VBS is coming together June 17 – 19, 6 – 8:00 PM, but still needs a few more volunteers.  Lee also provided additional ideas regarding street signage options.

There was a lengthy signage discussion. We currently have a quote for two new signs, but also want to explore idea of more contemporary signage as well as other possibilities. It was agreed that the Marketing committee will be given up to $1000 (from Capital Improvement fund) to pay for resources used in preparing options/plan, including professional services. Vote was 3-1 with Sheri voting against.

Confirmed a second Council retreat to be held June 1st from 9am-12. Next regular Council meeting will be held June 19th at 7pm.

Watched a leadership video, The First Follower Leader, provided by Pastor Ron and discussed the dynamics of group momentum.

Brett provided printed guidelines for implementation for Neighbor Relief designated account, as requested by Council. Council will discuss at next meeting. Also, reminded everyone that patio landscape inserts near classrooms and kitchen will be filled in with concrete to promote the area’s multi-use needs.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
