The President David Perez opened the Council meeting at 7:00 PM. Pastor Ron led with prayer.
The minutes of the June meeting were read and approved by all.
Financial Report: Laura Ortiz gave the treasurers report. Of note was that last June (2014) we had a deficit of $3,516. This June we were deficit $355.
Laura is organizing an audit for years 2011, 2012, and 2013 The report was approved by all.
Director of Operations Report: The solar project is pending Council approval, which is dependent on funding. There is currently no money set aside for the project.
The School District will make a final decision on the Charter School on Sept 9.
The Council decided to inform the congregation of the pending solar, charter school, and cell tower projects at a special congregational meeting. Council will have an attorney look at the proposals. It was agreed we would have two informational meetings on August 23 and 30, and then have a congregational vote on Sept 13.
We are currently working with a contractor to replace the all the sanctuary lights with LED lights. The new lights will be free on with a SDG&E program.
Paul Ford made a motion to have Brett ask SDG&E to evaluate the feasibility of a new freezer. There may be a grant available for an energy efficient model.
Linda Sorenson (formerly of College Lutheran Church) is operating a charity called “God’s Closet.” Pastor Ron thinks this could be a good fit with Project Hand. Space for clothes may be a concern, but funding for equipment would come from College Lutheran funds.
The Council gave hearty thanks to David Perez and family for doing the landscaping of church grounds since March. We appreciate their all their work very much.
